What the client needed

A clear look at the goal and the starting condition before materials were selected or work began.

01 · Objective

The outcome to create

Bring every major space in the home — kitchen, bathroom, all bedrooms, the attic, and the exterior — up to one consistent, move-in-ready standard, instead of renovating rooms piecemeal over time.

02 · Starting point

The original condition

The home needed a coordinated update throughout: dated kitchen and bathroom finishes, hardwood floors that needed refinishing, an unfinished attic space with real potential, and exterior landscaping and steps that needed a refresh.

Project journal

Inside the renovation

A full home renovation carried out as one coordinated project — kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, attic, and exterior all brought to the same finish level at the same time.

‍

The Challenge

A home with good structure and layout, but finishes and systems that had fallen behind room by room. Rather than update one space and leave the rest dated by comparison, the goal was to bring the whole property — inside and out — to one consistent standard in a single project.

‍

What We Did

  • Refinished hardwood floors throughout the main level, hallway, and attic loft
  • Rebuilt the kitchen with white shaker-style cabinetry, granite-look countertops, a stainless appliance package, and matte black fixtures
  • Fully remodeled the bathroom — a gray tile tub surround built around the home's original glass block window, white vanity, black fixtures and lighting
  • Replaced interior doors and hardware throughout with matte black hardware for a consistent look room to room
  • Repainted every room, hallway, and the entry vestibule in a soft gray-and-white palette
  • Refinished and stained the hallway's original hardwood floors, along with the front entry and every bedroom
  • Kept the hallway's original linen closets and arched doorway trim, repainted and refreshed rather than replaced
  • Finished the attic level into a usable loft/bonus space, with new flooring, lighting, and windows
  • Rebuilt the rear deck with a brick-clad foundation and lattice skirt
  • Refreshed exterior landscaping and rebuilt the front porch steps and railing
  • Retained and refreshed the detached one-car garage

‍

The Result

A home that reads as fully updated from the street to the attic, with no room left at a different finish level than the rest. Coordinating kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, hallway, attic, and exterior into one project kept the design consistent and the timeline predictable. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a full home renovation cost in Cleveland?

‍It depends heavily on square footage and how many rooms are in scope — a project like this one, covering a full kitchen, bathroom, all bedrooms, and a finished attic, is priced differently than updating a single room. We break down the cost drivers in How Much Does a Whole-Home Renovation Cost in Cleveland, Ohio?

Is it worth renovating the whole house at once instead of room by room?

‍For a home where several rooms need work, renovating together — as in this project — usually costs less overall and finishes faster than spacing the same work out over separate projects, since design, materials, and scheduling stay coordinated under one plan.

How long does a full home renovation take?

‍For a project this size — kitchen, bathroom, all bedrooms, and a finished attic — plan for roughly 8–12 weeks from demo to final walkthrough, depending on material lead times and the condition of existing systems.

Scope, decisions and problem-solving

The useful details behind the finished photographs: what was built, why materials were chosen and how unexpected conditions were handled.

03 · Work completed

Detailed scope

  • Hardwood floor refinishing throughout the main level, hallway, entry, and attic
  • Full kitchen rebuild — cabinetry, counters, appliances, fixtures
  • Full bathroom remodel, built around the home's original glass block window
  • New interior doors and matte black hardware throughout
  • Interior repaint — every bedroom, the hallway, and the entry vestibule
  • Original hallway linen closets and arched doorway trim repainted and preserved
  • Attic finished into a usable loft/bonus space
  • Rear deck rebuilt with a brick-clad foundation and lattice skirt
  • Front steps, railing, and landscaping refreshed

‍

04 · Finish strategy

Materials & design

  • White shaker cabinetry and granite-look counters chosen for the kitchen to stay broadly appealing and easy to maintain
  • Matte black hardware and fixtures used consistently in the kitchen, bathroom, and every interior door, so the palette reads as one decision rather than room-by-room choices
  • The home's original glass block bathroom window was kept and built around with new tile, preserving a character detail instead of replacing it
  • A soft gray-and-white paint palette applied throughout every bedroom, the hallway, and the entry, to keep the whole home visually connected
  • The hallway's original layout and trim details — linen closets, arched doorway — were preserved rather than reconfigured, refreshed instead of removed
  • The attic's existing footprint was finished rather than expanded, keeping the project inside the home's original structure

05 · On-site judgment

Challenge solved

With multiple rooms in scope at once — kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, hallway, and the attic — the risk was finishes drifting out of sync as different trades worked through the home. Standardizing hardware, fixture finish, and paint palette across every space up front meant each room could be completed independently without losing the sense that the whole house was renovated together.
